So I KNEW how much I had going in: a 20 and seven ones. I had to pre-pay for $15 of 87 Octane at the fuel station at the intersection of Dirksen at Peoria. It was my first time there and it is my last time there.
As I handed over the $20 bill something caught my attention so when I felt a piece of folding money hit my palm, I pocketed it, walked out and fuelled by chariot of tires. THEN because I knew a visit to the grocer was next, for some reason I decided to count my cash. The total came to $8. I checked my other pockets: nothing. I counted again, same thing. NERTS! I felt as though someone had picked my pocket, and in a manner of speaking I was right.
Two customers were in front, so I waited until they departed. I asked the cashier, “Are you sure you handed me back a five dollar bill?”
“Sure did,” she said.
I hadn’t been pick-pocketed; I had been screwed. It was my word against hers. Screw the grocer too. I have Ramen noodles and lunchmeat for tonight’s dinner, plenty of tea and coffee, and maybe three more knives of Peter Pan Crunchy.
So my advice to you is count your change by the register next time you purchase fuel. You may spend more than you thought you’d spend.
Live long . . . . . and walk more.
Well, you are officially the first I have heard of to pay over $5.00/gallon for gas, assuming gas is $3.99 in Springfield.
$15/3.99 = 3.75 gallons
$19/3.75gal = $5.067/gallon

Your good math and astute observation have given me a distinction I did not intend to earn, but a distinctionm none-the-less . . . . and I’ll take it.
