blossoming hopefuls
primary campaigns’
spring dandelions
– Job Conger
Which one will I pick? Probably none of them.
When I encountered the first dandelions of spring, on March 29, I rushed to grab my camera, to photograph them before they disappeared. I encountered my first robin of spring about the same time, but she was less-inclined to pose.
Though many, including my sister Dorothy, thought Bill Clinton should have been convicted following impeachment, I could not fault a man whose greatest sin (according to the Republican theocrats) was lying about whether or not he had engaged a woman not his wife in sexual hanky panky. When lying about stealing a dime is a greater crime than stealing the dime, I believe it’s appropriate not to ask about stealing the dime. Though Bill dodged a dunking in cold water, which , had he sunk to the bottom, would have proved he was NOT a witch after all, (meaning it was no business of the theocrats what he did, personal equipment-wise with what, with whom and where was none of Congress’s business) I still felt what he did with his wayfaring zipper and proximal anatomy was close to reprehensible. And though his record following the election of #43 in 2000 has been exemplary in my book, it seems his conduct in the White House will harvest its “pound of flesh” from the former president and family in a way none could have imagined during the big impeachment.
If Bill Clinton had completed his two terms ias president without the scandal, his wife Hillary would appropriately have a fair chance today of becoming the Democratic Party nominee for the office of President. The sins of the husband seem detined to knock out Hillary’s hopes.
Why? If you’re a good wife, like Hillary, like the former spouses of Rudy Giuliani, Newt Gingrich, and others, you remember the vows taken when you were bound in whory matrimony — make that holy matrimony — to your husband, and he signed on for the same arrangement. Well okay, so the theocrats were not so good at it. They’re in the bidness of shaming others for their faults; not for living up to their own immutable dicta from God. Point is through thick and thin, Hillary stood by her partner, to her great credit. She played by The Book. A sadder but “wiser” spouse would have jettisoned Bill like so many catfish bones after a picnic. And as a result, she delivered her own premature and unwarranted political doom-scenario to the jackals who eat Book players for lunch.
Should she jettison Bill as a person might willingly accept the amputation of a gangrenous arm that threatens the rest of the body? I hope she doesn’t. I bet she doesn’t. I think she still loves her husband. What a marvelous notion if it’s true as it seems to be, don’t you think? It sould be so “McCain” of her to sacrifice her cherished principals for political gain . . . . . I believe Hillary is a better person.
It’s a shame, but inevitable, that the opposition will pillory Hillary like a modern Hester Prynne if she wins the nomination of her party to stand for election to become our nation’s next president. If you think the despicable lying about John Kerry’s war record reeked of odiferous chicanery, think again. That was just a warm-up calesthenic before the main event. The fact Bill Clinton was not convicted, that as though by Divine intercession, cooler heads prevailed, won’t even be part of the discussion. Her husband’s dalliance will cost her the November election if she’s nominated, even though she did the right thing and stood by her husband during the rough going. The inevitability of this grim tableau saddens me. Hillary Clinton is a school-book example of how to live long and in the main, correctly. The inevitabilty of this unhappy outcome, which means the theocrat creationist candidate will win by default, should convince voters to vote for another Democrat candidate in the Primary Election campaign. I intend to, and I hope you will also.
Thanks for reading this.
Live long . . . . . . . and proper.
